Mountain Views RV Park

I realized this morning that I haven’t shown any pictures of the RV park where we are staying…We are surrounded by mountains…That is the reason for the plural in views…Today is so comfortable that it is great to be out side…I took the trash to the dumpster and took these pictures this morning…Mountain Views...Creede 003

Don’t Tell Mary Ann

Decisions….Decisions…I put my pants on this morning and decided…I WILL GROW A BEARD…What ever you do…Don’t tell Mary Ann…I will take pictures so you can see the transformation…Mary Ann said she would shave her head…Let’s see what happens…I have decided to carve this morning…The sun is out and it looks like a beautiful day developing…Mary Ann wants to go to Pagosa Springs and shop for groceries this afternoon…This means going over Wolf Pass and seeing some more beautiful country…Talk to you later if Mary Ann doesn’t kill me first…Philip

Should I, Or Shouldn’t I

I woke up this morning with a hair brain thought…I wonder what I would look like if I grew a beard…Should I grow a full beard…Or should I grow a goatee…Or maybe a Col. Sanders look…Maybe I could just grow one like Santa and not have to worry about a false one at Christmas…Awl well, just a thought…I know I will get a lot of e-mails on this one…Mary Ann will kill me what ever type of beard I choose…I guess I will just keep on living and shave every morning…We don’t travel much on the week-ends because of traffic, so we make this a work day and catch up with chores…Next Saturday is the fourth and there is going to be a fireworks display that occurs every year here in Creede…We will be able to see it from our motor home…We will put out the lawn chairs and watch…It has a duration of an hour…Now I have to start getting ready for the eight of July…Mary Ann’s birthday…She has me, so what else should she want…OF’ Lord its hard to be humble when your perfect in every way…Will you please tell her that…She seems to have other ideas about that subject…Well the adventures of life is the true meaning of life…Take it and run with it and the learning experiences of your choices will make or break you…It is your own choice whether to like or dislike anything…My choice whether to grow a beard or not…Of course with Mary Ann’s approval…I like living…Talk to you later…Philip

Permanent, Groceries, And Touring

Yesterday was Mary Ann Day…The closest place that would satisfied the needs of the pack leader was Alamosa…Some 60 miles away…We were on our way by 9 AM…Any direction from Creede is a beautiful drive…With the car getting 33 mpg makes these short trips a real pleasure…We get to Great Clips about 10:45 and Mary Ann was taken right in, even though her appointment wasn’t until 11…I took a magazine in with me and read it as a good obedient husband would do.  It took about an hour and half…Time to eat…There was a Chilies about a block from the Great Clips…We had lunch and headed for Wall Mart to get groceries…Another hour before we were on our way back to Creede…We got home and unloaded groceries just as a mountain afternoon shower began…Well that was it for yesterday…This morning we wanted to go to North Clear Creek Falls…What a beautiful drive…The pictures we took this morning are below…Creed Sight Seein 6-23-09 012 Creed Sight Seein 6-23-09 022Mary Ann Creed Sight Seein 6-23-09 008 Creed Sight Seein 6-23-09 006

Windy, Cold, and BBQ

Woke up to a beautiful day…Lots of wind…Temp. 38…Humidity 12 per cent…Almost 9,000 feet…What a way to live!!!…At my age I look back and try to see my tracks…Education is expensive…Regardless where it comes from…Living through the valleys and peaks we learn to move on with our lives…As life moved me along it was hard at times to move…At times I wanted to quit…Just let me off and let life go on…I learned to accept things as they were and move on…Enjoying the things that were around…Learning not trying to change people  but accepting them as they are…Not putting a moral judgment on every thing…These are the issues that have changed in my mind so life is truly beautiful…I learned from dogs that life is now…Not yesterday or tomorrow, but this moment…What makes my life beautiful…Computer…Carving…Travel…Music…The many parts I have played on stage…The people and family that accept me as I am…And of course a devoted wife that encourages life at its fullest…I will try not to be so preachy in the future, but today I felt like sharing my feelings…I love life and if you ever find me dead I DID NOT DO IT…You look for that son-of- a-gun that did it…I appreciate your a-mails and comments…Today the Resort is having a BBQ for all the Dads…Talk to you later…Philip

Altitude And Cold Morning

With the altitude close to 9000 ft the weather is down in the low 30’s and high 20’s in the mornings…This makes any kind of activity leaving you breathing very deeply…This is such a beautiful place and just full of history…We drove over to Lake City ,Tuesday…This is the place where Alford Packer got caught in the winter and the group ate the bodies of those that died when their food supplies were exhausted…There is much controversy about what actually happened…We are excited about places to go on day trips…The rustic town Lake City is in a beautiful valley…To get there you have to cross passes reaching to almost 13000 feet…The altitude just makes me move very slow…Hwy 149 out of Creede 013

We Made It To Creede

Yesterday was a travel day…We had a beautiful day…Sun was out… Mountains were clear…Snow capped peaks were beautiful with fresh snow from all the bad weather…We are a little over 8,000 feet and the air is thin…We move more slowly and breath more deeply…This morning the temperature was 28 F…That is cold weather for the middle of June…Our setting is beautiful…I will get out this morning and take some pictures…Creede is a small mining village with a rustic early 1900’s buildings and atmosphere …We will be here for over a month and I hope I can tell you about every nook and cranny…I better get busy and take my shower and get out and take some pictures so we can share…Talk to you later…Philip

Cartoons

Well here I sit on Sunday Morning…Had a great night sleep…Taken my shower…I have eaten breakfast…Bacon, eggs, toast, coffee…I checked to see if the TV's are working after the change over…They work…I checked my e-mail…I change the TV back to satellite and guess what?…I am watching Mickey Mouse…Mary Ann Is right…I am reverting back to my childhood…I can actually answer all the questions on Mickey Mouse…Maybe I could get a diploma from pre-school…We have to shift gears today and start getting ready to leave…We will head for Creede in the morning…It has been a good week on the river…Rafts going by, fishermen drifting and catching fish, cool weather, the typical afternoon, mountain showers and of course the friendly atmosphere of the camp grounds…I am sorry that I missed a couple days…I have no excuse other than my usual procrastination…I really have mixed emotions about leaving…Friends we have met, but then there are new friends tomorrow…We always have something to look forward to…There are regrets in leaving old things…I let you know about Creede…We will be there 38 days…Talk to you later…I think I should change channels…I do think I am too old for Mickey…Philip

A Day Trip To Creed

Wednesday morning we wanted to drive the car down to Creed and  check out where we would be staying…Since we would be staying there for 38 days we wanted just to scout it out…It was just over 100 miles and would take about two and a half hours going through the mountains…We left and the weather was cloudy…I looked on the computer and snow was forecast for Creed…We love mountain driving in the car…The further we went the lower the clouds…Mary Ann said that if it got too bad we would turn around…Well it started to rain and the temp was showing low 40’s and high 30’s…I kept driving and misty rain required intermittent windshield wipers…The traffic was mild and even with the rain it was a beautiful drive…It was still misting rain when we drove into Creed…Mountain View is a beautiful resort sitting in a small valley just South of Creed…We went in and met the manager and was very impressed with the quality of services…We looked at the space we would be living when we arrive next Monday…The Old Fire House Restaurant was recommended as a good place to have lunch…We drove into Creed and had lunch…We we finished and came out of the restaurant the sun was out and the weather felt warm…We took our jackets off and started for Salida…By the way, gas prices in Creed was 2.75…We made it back and Mary Ann didn’t want to fix dinner so she talked me into taking her to the Pizza Hut…Talk to you later…Philip

We Arrived In Salida

Salida 06-08-09 001 Our time was up in Chatfield and it was time to go another 160 miles to Salida …We will be here for a week…The drive down was beautiful except for the wind…We were experiencing winds estimated at 35-40 MPH…The amount of rainfall has made the mountains the most beautiful with an abundance of green…The motor home has a ford v-10 and has enough power to have very little strain climbing the mountains…The twist and turns made the trip an exhilarating Salida 06-08-09 002 experience…We had to pick up fuel in Canyon City and left just before noon…We found a pull out by the Arkansas River and made sandwiches for lunch…We only had about 45 miles to the Four Seasons Camp Ground…We had made reservations for one of the better sites right on the river…The pictures will show what the beautiful view is here on the Arkansas River…We leave for Creed next Monday…As soon as we pulled into our site we had neighbors coming by to say hello…One of the next door neighbors stopped by to talk for a short visit…His name is Art…He is originally from Oklahoma…I want to sit out by the river and just take in the view…TalkSalida 06-08-09 008 to you later…Philip

Started Carving Blue Jay

Today turned out to be a beautiful day…Except, the wind…It is blowing about 25 to 30 MPH…After breakfast Mary Ann went to wash clothes and I got my carving equipment out and set up to carve…After about three hours of carving I made the decision to quit and surrender to the wind…I packed up the equipment and went inside the motor home…I checked my e-mail…Mary Ann was back from washing the clothes…That wonderful woman had put some chicken on to cook before she left to wash…So guess what we had for lunch…Chicken and noodles…What a delicious meal…Well after a meal like that there is only one thing to do…Take a nap…I took my Chip Chats (magazine) and went to sleep reading…Woke up and checked for messages on the computer…Mary Ann wanted pizza for dinner…She called Pizza Hut and individual pizzas…She took off and in a few minuets she was back…We finished our dinner and here I sit…As usual, I ate too much…I want to show a picture of a beautiful sight…A Hooping Crain came flying over, about 20 feet over my head…I took the picture and didn’t have time to aim…I just pointed and shot…The results are not good…A beautiful bird…I wish I could have done it justice…Talk to you later…PhilipChatfield Bird June 09 006

Coal Creek Canyon

Woke up yesterday and guess what?…It had stopped raining…Oh great…I can carve…Well you guessed it…Mary Ann had other ideas…We were going on a day trip to Coal Creek Canyon…I really didn’t mind…It was a beautiful drive…A few showers hit us in the mountains, but they were only small thunder storms…Today I will carve…I will start on a Blue Jay…Mary Ann has been asking for one…Pictures will be published tonight…Talk to you later…Philip

Started Raining Again

Well it started raining again two days ago and the ground is  becoming saturated…I could not set out and carve so I went shopping in a woodcarvers candy store…Mary Ann went with me and did not know what I had in mind…She stepped over to the book display…She has wanted me to carve a red tail hawk for a couple of years…She found a book with great detail on anatomy and feathering…Now she is on my back just because she gave me the book…But, what I had a mission to do was buy another (expensive) tool…When I started carving I told her all I needed was a twenty dollar knife and a peace of wood…Well after a few thousand dollars later I still always need one more tool…Well I got home yesterday and checked everything out and need one more thing…something to carry it in…Well I got up this morning and ask her if she wanted to go with me to Home Depot…Yes, she wanted to go (probably to keep me from buying too much)…I just had to buy a tool bag to put my stuff in…Well I found what I needed and made the purchase…It was time to stop spending money and head for the motor home…It is forty-six degrees and Mary Ann is cooking chilly…She said it is ready and wants me to get off the computer…Talk to you later….Philip
